Chapter 10

I've finished reading chapter 10 about using legacy code. Very interesting chapter as it discusses how to use com, com+ and win32 api...all of which is considered unmanaged code in the .net world.

Managed code is anything that runs with the clr.

Chapter 9 Started

I've actually read this chapter before concerning localization. The best thing I like about .net localization is the ability to supply a culture and sub-culture to allow for localization.

One thing that I've noticed that is different from my study this time is that I need to really go hard on doing questions from the transcenders while I read. This i believe will really make a difference and help to concretize the ideas I have read.

Chapter 14 Completed

I've completed reading chapter 14 which is mainly about the system.diagnostics namespace. I will have to sit down and go through adding some of the items talked about in this chapter to my web application especially performance counters.

Chapter 15 Review

I am continuing my read of chapter 15. Yesterday I wasn't able to contribute any time to the reading. At exactly 1200pm I would like to get some reading in. That means I have to stop whatever I'm doing no matter what it is and switch over to reading.

When trying to do multiple things in a day giving time to different things you would like to accomplish is crucial. Otherwise you will never get it done!!

Update: I was able to contribute 1/2 an hour to this and finish it off. I read some interesting stuff about caching and its potential in offline applications.

UPDATE Nov 4th 2005:

I've finished reading chapter 15.

Chapter 15 Review

Today I will be reviewing chapter 15 in the book that I have been using as my study guide for the mcsd study. Thanks to Justice for introducing me to this book as it is really very extensive and covers material not found in the Microsoft Official review books.

Setting the Stage

The MCSD Certification is a major goal that I would like to accomplish by the end of next year...some where around December 2006. I'm hoping it won't take that long but I'm setting it up to be this way simply because of my progress so far. Unfotunately I have still been unable to take the web exam for this cert.

My wizard friend at work - Justice the Gray , has been trying to help me in achieving this goal but I still haven't been able to make this a reality. It requires a great deal of commitment in terms of time. It also requires willingness to put aside other things in life and concentrate on the certification at hand.

Usually I have a one track mind and I am unable to multi-task. It is a skill I am *slowly* getting better at but it is still difficult. I'm just used to doing one thing and then moving on. I started ok with the web cert, was able to keep up to my own pace of study even while watching some others on my team achieve this excellent goal. But after awhile I lost it by letting other things come in my way...especially my part-time work.

Managing my time in order to allow for certification study will be essential to my future success.
